NY – Most dairy farmers today want to follow the rules – they know that’s the
only way they’ll stay in business long. And they want to be good neighbors,
too, for farmers have a long tradition of being community minded.

only way they’ll stay in business long. And they want to be good neighbors,
too, for farmers have a long tradition of being community minded.

And so it has to be
especially frustrating for dairy farmers waiting for new state guidelines on
manure spreading. The (New York State) Department of Environmental Conservation
has been studying its guidelines for manure application and is expected to
issue its new rules soon. The study was prompted by a series of well
contaminations in the town of Batavia.
