Manure runoff in MI results in minor fish kill

June 25, 2012, Huron Township, MI — Neighbors of a Meade Township dairy farm say they are extremely concerned after finding manure runoff from a farm field had made its way into a ditch and then into a nearby county drain resulting in the killing of fish.

Officials say Shupe Dairy was using a manure irrigator to spread cow manure onto a farm field with “an actively growing crop” in Meade Township June 21. When it rained that afternoon, the manure ran into a nearby shallow ditch and then into a county drain which runs along the property. READ MORE
