August 19, 2008, Muncie, Ind. – Commissioners in Indiana’s Delaware County are working to pass a moratorium halting the construction of new concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).
The moratorium passed first reading August 18 and faces a final vote September 2.
According to an article in the Star Press, commissioners have been trying to pass a CAFO regulation in the county since 2005. Frustrated with a lack of action by the county’s planning commission, they decided to bring forward a moratorium instead.
