The award is given to an individual who dedicates their time, talents and passion to the creation of a better Northwest Missouri.

Bush is being honored for his work at Northwest Missouri State University, which he graduated from in August of 1957 with a bachelor of science in secondary education.

He returned to Northwest Missouri State University in 1968 and in 1979, as vice president for Environmental Development, he led an effort to move the university into biomass energy. After the university experienced a disastrous fire, Bush helped to upgrade the campus through a three-phase biomass project, which included woodchips (1982), paper pellets (1993), and animal waste pellets (2001), reducing the university’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Bush, along with John Redden, Jason Helton and James Teaney, were named as the developers of a recently-awarded US Patent Number 6,149,694 to the university for an innovative process using animal waste as a fuel source.

In 1994, he formed a broad-based collaborative team known as “The Nutrient Management Team” that led the research for animal waste to energy process.

Bush retired from Northwest Missouri State University in June 2002. He currently operates a company providing renewable energy consulting services and high performance team building and training in industrial and educational settings.
