Manure Manager Magazine was pleased to recently receive a unique and special honor—a ball cap from Manure Manager became the 70,000th cap in the collection of Buckey Legried.

Buckey, a farm equipment dealer in Minnesota—representing the Nuhn line of manure application equipment—started collecting caps in 1970. Since then, he has hit a number of milestones, with 70,000 caps representing the most recent plateau.

“When I first started out, I thought getting 1,000 caps would be an interesting goal,” says Buckey. “I hit that mark a few years later and when word got out about my collection, I started receiving a lot more.”

Buckey has had special boxes made up, each of which can hold 24 caps. He started out storing the boxed caps in a building, but ran out of space. These days, he has them stored in two 48-foot semi trailers.

At this point, Buckey says he has no “numbers goal” in mind for his collection. “I’d like to do two things,” he explains. “Get into the Guinness Book of Records, and find a museum where the hats could be on display.” Getting into Guinness will be a formality—the current record holder has 27,777 caps. “We kind of got him beat already,” says Buckey.

As of mid-March of this year, he was up to 70,240 caps.

Included in his collection are John Deere caps from every US state and Canadian province. He has over 2,000 John Deere caps alone, some from around the world, from Israel to Uruguay.

And Buckey would like to add more caps to his collection. If you’re interested, caps can be sent to Buckey at Buckey’s Sales and Service, 45394 20th Street, Frost, Minnesota, 56033.

And if you’re interested in adding to, or starting your own cap collection, a limited number of Manure Manager ball caps are available from the magazine for $17.50 US (including shipping & handling), payable by Visa or MasterCard. Orders can be phoned in at (604) 990-9970 or sent by e-mail to info@manuremanager.com
