September 28, 2009 – An
addition to the provincial Ontario Building Code in Canada concerning manure storage tank
construction has caused headaches for some who serve the agricultural sector.
According to the Daily
Commercial News and Construction Record, the 2007 change requires concrete have
a 28-day strength of at least 32 megapascals and be manufactured from Type 50
cement. It applies to structures housing either dry or liquid manure and is
intended to prevent tank leaks, which might cause environmental problems.
