Virginia Tech has recently activated an INTEGRITY manure treatment and nutrient control system at its research and dairy teaching facility in Blacksburg, Virginia.

The INTEGRITY system was engineered and furnished by Nutrient Control Systems of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, to meet Virginia Tech’s two primary objectives: odor control and phosphorous removal. The INTEGRITY system utilizes patented technology that works with flushed or scraped manure systems to eliminate odor problems while removing and isolating key nutrients.

“The INTEGRITY manure treatment system is not a slurry system,” says company spokesman Brad Whitsel. “It is an entirely different approach to manure management that virtually eliminates tanking. The system permits land application without run-off or over-application and can meet either N or P-based plans.”

The system is comprised of five building blocks that permit an affordable, incremental approach with each building block offering additional benefits to the producer. The complete INTEGRITY system permits environmentally responsible manure management at about one-half the cost of tanking slurry, according to Whitsel.

INTEGRITY Nutrient Control Systems, Inc specializes in agricultural waste management and nutrient control. The company began development of the INTEGRITY system in the early 1990s and is doing pioneering research in manure management and nutrient control practices in dairy, swine, poultry and beef operations.
